I've been building a APL skill that displays video, and used the example here: https://github.com/alexa-labs/skill-sample-nodejs-firetv-vlogs/blob/master/lambda/custom/videoPlayer.json as the basis for setting up a template with a pause/play video button.
Until fairly recently, the skill was working fine - however, within the last couple of weeks (can't pinpoint the exact time, unfortunately), the template has started displaying incorrectly on my echo show 1st gen.
The problem is this - the button starts with the pause icon up, which displays correctly, but when the button is pressed the pause button disappears and the play icon doesn't show up. When pressed again, the pause button will reappear as expected.
I've tried two potential methods of diagnosing what might be the problem:
1. Switched the styling for the pause and play icons to reverse the circumstances when they appear/disappear. The play icon now showed up fine on startup, but on click the pause icon refused to appear.
2. Switched the styling back, and made play icon appear regardless of checked state. Play icon was now always visible, and pause icon was visible when it was supposed to be. To me, this suggested that one icon wasn't somehow hiding the other.
I've also tried using the example template listed above to diagnose what might be going wrong, but it had the same issue with the play icon not showing up.
Weirdly, the pause and play icons both display just fine on the test console (both with my custom template and the test template linked above), so I'm wondering if this is an issue particular to the 1st gen echo show I'm using. Is this the case, or is there something else that I'm not seeing here?
