I know that the new motion\contact sensor api allows you to develop a smart home skill. However, the documentation seems geared more towards a hardware creator\manufacturer. Much of what you have to control has to be coded into "discovery", and then polling against a device.
What I am trying to do is take the sensors I already added to my echo device (already have been discovered and named in the Alexa app) and access their data programmatically over an api or via some other method. Ideally when motion is detected it would send a post down to my local API, or to a lambda function, and from there I can do what i need to with that detection. I dont really want\need a full blown smart home skill, all I need to be able to do is access the data for the sensors I have already configured natively through device discovery.
Is this feasible? The motion\smart home documentation is super over whelming and it has links that nest into more links, its kind of hard to understand the capabilities and how to accomplish the above if it even is possible.
