This is not strictly a developer question but I cannot find any alternate ways to solve for this.
As an early adopter, I have 6 Alexa device (2 dots, 2 gen 1 echo,1 spot, 1 plus). The first two were brought in the US and they worked fabulously well in India (where I reside)
I ended up picking 2 more in the UK and then the plus and Spot when Alexa launched in India.
It appears to be causing some kind of server region conflict due to which
a) the last two devices (brought in India) show up as offline on the Alexa app although they continue to work for basic stuff (e.g. answering questions/playing music) - but they refuse to operate any smart home devices (response - "you do not have any smart home devices" while the other 4 UK/US devices works expected)
b) Drop In/Call does not work on any of the devices
I de-registered all devices and connected them to a test account (.in) and as expected, all 6 work for everything including smart home control and drop-in
However I would love to link them back to my real account especially since I have Prime on it.
Steps tried so far:
a) Changing region to India under "Account>manage devices"
b) Logging a support call with amazon India where the rep convinced me to get a replacement device for the Plus (brought in India) despite my insistence that the issue is not related to hardware (and as expected, the replacement has the same issue
c) Logging a support call with Amazon USA where the L1 support exec first changed my region (supposedly) to India - then transferred the call to L2 . The L2 agent while very helpful couldn't resolve this even after spending 1.5 hrs with me
The issue, in almost all likelihood is with my account (for some inexplicable reason) getting latched on to the USA servers. I can see the same in 2 ways:
The test account goes to https://alexa.amazon.in/spa/index.html as expected
This problem has persisted for me for over 6 months now and I cannot think of any way to resolve this unless someone on amazon's end removes whatever sticky goo binds my account to the US servers
