Hey guys I am making my app compatible with Kindle fire & fire tablets. So I started by updating my SDK with amazon addons & tried to make AVDs accordingly. Even after that I am not able to create the emulators for any of the kindle fire devices. Here are the addons installed in my sdk: 1. Amazon Fire Tablet SDK Addon 2. Amazon Fire Phone SDK Addon 3. Amazon Fire Tv SDK Addon With That I also have below in my extras directory: 1. Amazon Fire Phone Build Tools 2. Kindle Fire USB driver 3. Amazon Maps API V2 Even after these things, I am not able to find the way to create EMULATOR. If this does not work then where I can test my app?? I am integrating Amazon Maps + Amazon Devices Messsaging in my application. Is it like amazon have discontinued support for emulators?? or Is there any other way to create emulator for at least their latest devices?? Other way to test my application???
The App Testing Service is not just a static analyzer, it actually tests and runs your app on actual hardware. However, if you want to actually test the app yourself on a physical device you would need to get a Fire, which currently starts at $100.
The problem is that my app would use the Amazon Maps API v2 as a replacement for Google Maps API v2 and also have a barcode reader library embedded so my user can scan barcodes. These two items alone make it necessary for me to work with at least an emulator or an Amazon Kindle tablet/FireOS phone. I also use Google Play Location API and I need to test my custom replacement code for that as well. A static analyzer will not suffice. Moreover, I would not just trust a static analyzer without being able to test on at least an emulator and be able to test things quickly. It just seems like a really poor decision from Amazon to leave developers who are interested in developing for FireOS out in the cold with horrible support... So this is basically forcing me to shell out several hundred dollars to get a Kindle device - just so I can even test my app? Hmm.
As stated in my previous post, we offer our app testing service specifically so you can test your apps for free on Amazon devices, without the need for emulators. For the most part, android code will just work on Fire tablets, and most Amazon APIs can be tested on any android device.
I'm starting to look into altering my code to support FireOS - and then I read that there are no emulators available? I'm quite flabbergasted by this situation... So as a developer who is still not entirely convinced I want to port my Android app to the Amazon app store, I can't run my code on an emulator? Do you really expect developers on the edge (like me) to then go out there and spend a few hundred bucks to purchase a Kindle tablet or phone to test my code? It just makes me less enthusiastic to even attempt putting my app on the Amazon app store...
